Hi, I am 1 of 4 survivor's of Samuel Curtis Horne which served sea time on the USS CURTISS AV-4 between 1954 Thur 1958. He was a seaman. He has recently passed over: (3/2/2008). We are researching our fathers history. We have learned some but not done. We never think to ask our parents questions about their life until it is to late. If you have any information to pass on, please!, contact myself at: bluec1@verizon.net Every little imformation that we collect helps us come closer to knowing how fine and how proud we are and will always be of our wonderful, blessed father, which is now our GUARDIAN ANGLE.

Dear Sir,
My dad, Lt. Robert G. Leuty, was I believe, stationed aboard the USS Curtiss during the kamikazi attack. Is there any way that I could find information about his service through this website? He was a dentist and I think he was injured in the attack. My father passed away in 1962 and I have only recently learned of his Naval service during World War II. Anything you could tell me to direct my search would be appreciated. E-Mail: mweiler1@comcast.net
Thank you,
Gretchen Weiler

My name is Leo Eisenoff. I live in Monroe Township, NJ and I am 90 years old. I served in the US Navy in the Pacific Fleet during WWII and spent 2 years aboard the USS Curtiss. I was aboard on June 21, 1945 during the Japanese kamakazi attack that wiped out the third deck, killing many of my friends and fellow sailors. A day I will never forget.

George "Whitey" Kunkel was on the USS CURTISS, V-Division, May 1943 - November 1945. He was on it during the Okinawa Kamikaze hit in May 1945. He is now 86 and doesn't think there are many men left from his division. His best friend fom back then on ship was Eugene "Kliney" Klinedinst, who passed away 3/08. They remained friends all these years and shared a special bond.
